Oxygen Service Company (OSC) is an independent distributor of gas, welding, and automation supplies, serving customers across Minnesota, Wisconsin, the Dakotas, and Iowa. Founded in 1959, OSC has grown into a trusted partner for industrial and specialty gas solutions. Today, with over 160 employees, OSC continues to focus on innovation, continuous improvement, and fostering a strong company culture.
When OSC adopted the Entrepreneurial Operating System® (EOS) in 2013, it was an exciting opportunity to improve alignment and scale operations. However, the team quickly realized they struggled with the process component—a core aspect of EOS.
We realized we needed to get stronger in the EOS process component. We needed our teams to have access to our core processes and for them to stay updated. We had tried to do it manually in the past, which didn’t work as processes weren’t centralized or followed. So they just became out of date.

With OSC experiencing rapid growth, doubling its headcount, and expanding locations, the need for robust, up-to-date process documentation became even more critical. Nicole and the team chose Whale as the easy-to-use tool. Whale helped centralize processes, train team members on processes, AND keep processes updated.
The Team at OSC loved simplicity of Whale, making it easy to adopt for team members.
With Whale, OSC centralized their processes in one accessible location, enabling employees to easily locate information. The platform’s built-in review system ensured processes stayed current, while its flexibility allowed departments to document both high-level workflows and detailed procedures.
Now processes can be Followed-By-All.
As a high fact-finder, I explored six or seven different platforms. Whale stood out for its simplicity, visual appeal, and comprehensive features.

All 10 departments are now utilizing Whale daily to access their processes. It’s been especially helpful in Plant Operations, where the majority of processes have been documented in the system. They are using the video function and QR Codes for training.
All of the company’s core processes are documented and centralized in Whale.
OSC has migrated much of their in-person training to Whale to be able to train across all locations.
With automated process update reminders sent to the relevant subject matter experts, processes are now kept up to date.
Irrespective of where team members are, whether cross-state or simply out in the field, QR codes provide instant access to processes.
Whale is AI-powered software for documenting processes and training.
