Tettra is an AI-powered knowledge management tool. It is an internal wiki with a question and answer layer on top, and its AI bot, Kai, answers questions from your own content directly inside Slack. When nobody has answered something yet, it routes the question to the right person.
Whale is a SOP, training and knowledge platform. It also keeps documented processes in one searchable place, but its job continues after the document exists: assigning it to the right roles, checking people understood it, tracking completion, and giving every process an owner.
These two are closer than most comparisons on this site. Both take keeping content current seriously. This page sets out where each one is stronger, using both vendors’ own published information.

Whale is built around the whole life of a procedure, not just its creation. Every SOP has an owner, a version history and a review cycle. You can assign it, confirm it has been read, and test understanding with AI-generated quizzes. Approval flows and expert review cycles keep content trustworthy as it changes, an org chart maps processes to roles, and template libraries mean you are not starting from a blank page. Whale records screen walkthroughs too, with a built-in Step Recorder and Video to SOP, and through Whale’s MCP external AI tools can read and write your documentation directly.
Tettra is genuinely strong on keeping a knowledge base honest, which is where most wikis fall down. Verification lets subject matter experts re-confirm a page on a set schedule, and built-in reports surface stale pages, unowned content and pages that are more public than you intended. Teammates can request new pages when they hit a gap, so the backlog comes from the people actually using it.
Its other real strength is Slack. Kai answers questions in DMs and channels from your existing content, summarizes threads, and can mine answers that are already buried in Slack history. Tettra also notes that people who only interact through Slack do not count towards your Tettra user total, which is a genuine cost advantage worth knowing.
Where it stops is training. Tettra can tell you a page is current and owned, but it has no courses, quizzes, assignments or completion tracking, so it cannot show that a named person read a procedure and understood it. There is also no org chart tying processes to the roles responsible for them.
Whale is rated 9.6 out of 10 for ease of use on G2 and is built so a non-technical team member can document, find and train on a process without help. The setup that matters is structural: where procedures live, who owns them, and who has to read them.
Tettra is straightforward to adopt, particularly for teams that already live in Slack, because much of the value arrives without anyone leaving the tool they are already in. Content imports and hands-on onboarding are available, though those sit on the Enterprise plan.
The commercial shape is worth understanding before you commit. Scaling is priced per user with a 10 user minimum, so the smallest paid plan covers ten seats whether or not you need them, and there is no ongoing free tier, only a 30-day trial. Single sign-on and SCIM user provisioning are paid add-ons on Scaling rather than included, and become standard only on Enterprise.
Whale provides a responsive team on live chat and email, plus Coaching & Training services and a Migration service that will take the documentation you already have, wherever it lives today, including exports from other tools, and get it in properly.
Tettra provides live chat support on Scaling and priority support on Enterprise, with custom onboarding, training, reporting and integrations reserved for Enterprise.
On security, Tettra’s own security page states that its hosting and service providers are SOC 2 certified, naming Heroku and AWS. That is a statement about its infrastructure suppliers rather than a SOC 2 certification for Tettra itself, so it is quoted here as they word it. SAML single sign-on and SCIM are available as paid add-ons on Scaling and included on Enterprise.

Company knowledge sits in one permissioned system, with granular access per document, and Whale is SOC 2 certified, HIPAA ready and GDPR compliant.
Whale holds the written procedure as well as the walkthrough, so the answer your team gets is your process, with your tools, your thresholds and your exceptions, not a generic guide.

“Next to their very competitive pricing, their support is from out of this world. We used other tools before, but we left a bit hanging in the past regarding the support piece. Stino & his team are always available whenever we have a query which is amazing!”

Tettra is an AI-powered knowledge management tool: an internal wiki combined with a question and answer system. Its AI bot, Kai, answers questions from your own documented content inside Slack, and routes anything unanswered to the right person. It also includes Verification, which asks subject matter experts to re-confirm pages on a set schedule, plus reports for stale, unowned and public content.
Tettra publishes two plans. Scaling is $8 per user per month billed yearly, with a 10 user minimum, so the entry point covers ten seats. Enterprise is custom priced and adds SSO and SCIM as standard, hands-on onboarding, custom import and custom reporting. There is no ongoing free plan, only a 30-day free trial.
Two details matter when you budget. Single sign-on and SCIM user provisioning are paid add-ons on Scaling rather than included features. And Tettra counts a user as anyone you invite who accepts, though it states that people who only interact with it through Slack do not count towards that total.
Tettra keeps knowledge current. Whale keeps it current and proves it was followed. Both let you document processes, and both take content going stale seriously: Tettra with Verification and its stale and unowned content reports, Whale with process owners and review dates. The difference is what happens next. Whale adds training paths, quizzes, assignments, completion tracking and an org chart mapping processes to roles, so you can show a named person read a procedure and understood it. Tettra has no equivalent layer.
Whale and Tettra are priced differently.
Tettra is priced per user at $8 per month billed yearly, with a 10 user minimum, so the smallest paid plan is ten seats. Whale is priced per plan, with unlimited members on paid plans and a set number of creators included, because it carries training delivery, assignments, completion tracking and an org chart as well as the documents. For a small team where nearly everyone contributes, Tettra is the cheaper tool and a reasonable choice, and its Slack-only participants do not consume a seat. If most of your people only ever need to read a procedure and prove they did, compare the per-head cost against a plan with unlimited members and no separate LMS.
Whale. Tettra answers questions in Slack from a Q&A wiki. Whale makes the answer the source of truth: SOPs, checklists and policies with an owner, a version history and a review date, assigned to roles as training, with proof of who has read and understood which version.
